I don’t need a month to make me less American than I already feel.
You know it’s funny to me how this is a recurring issue even among black people. I even saw yet another comment about there being no “White History Month”. I hate to sound cliche’ but damn. From the moment we take our first history class, we literally injected with a huge helping of white history and spoon-fed history on any other race not just Blacks, but Hispanics, Asians, the whole 9. Even in predominately Black schools this situation is the same. The only time we learn anything more than just Black slavery in the school system is on February. If you don’t take it upon yourself to educate yourself, you’re basically left learning the same thing throughout the years until you graduate. And while I well understand that we should not just wait for February to celebrate or learn about our culture the whole debate on the matter pisses me off. One month out of the year. ONE AND THE SHORTEST ONE AT THAT. And you want to bitch about it because “it’s still American.” Shit like this just blows the hell out of my mind. And the whole argument that it just creates more racism is a bunch of bullshit to me. What person in their right state of mind is offended by a culture celebrating their history publicly for one month? You know what? I’m done. I don’t even…I usually don’t even deal with issues like this over the internet but this right here just ticked me off.
